Former footballer and Kerala’s first female football coach Fouzia Mampatta passed away. The 52-year-old was working as coach at Nadakkavu School in Kozhikode.

She was fighting cancer.

Fauzia was a girl who came to the football field at a time when girls were reluctant to even go to school to study.

She was the goalkeeper of Kerala in the National Games women’s football. Fauzia defended Kerala’s goal in the All India Women’s Junior Championship held in Kolkata.

Fauzia was a state champion in weightlifting, third in South India in powerlifting, a member of the state team in handball, bronze at the state level in judo, and a district team member in hockey and volleyball.
